The Foster Youth to Independence (FYI) Program

Are you a youth in need of housing?

You may qualify for the Foster Youth to Independence (FYI) Program if you meet the following requirements:

    You have attained at least 18 years and not more than 24 years of age.

    You have left foster care, or will leave foster care within 90 days.

    You are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless

What is the FYI Program?

Foster Youth to Independence (FYI) is a program to prevent and end homelessness among youth with a current or prior history of child welfare involvement. Eligible youth will receive up to 36 months of rental and case management assistance. The goals of this program are to:

What are the Requirements?

Along with this program, they will be required to receive case management in the following areas:

  • Basic Life Skills
  • Counseling on compliance with rental lease requirements

  • Providing assurances to owners of rental property as are reasonable and necessary

  • Job Preparation and attainment counseling

  • Education and career advancement counseling

Foster Youth Independence Program

How long does the program last?

Housing Assistance is offered for 36 months initially.

Participants are eligible to receive an extension for up to 24 months beyond the 36-month time limit for those who have engaged in at least one of the following activities for not less than 9 months of the 12-month period preceding each extension:
